The strength and weakness of women architects

Odile Decq - an architect by training, and one of the most prominent designers in France. Most of her works are created in the style of Hyper-Tension, which means - a hyper-tension. She has many awards for projects started, the most important of them:

- "Golden Lion" in 1996, for significant contribution to the development of architecture;

- About ten international and national awards in 1990 for the design of the office building Banque Populaire de l'Ouest (Rennes);

- "Designer of the Year" in 2013 for the week of Design in Paris.

Odile claims that the work should speak about their creators more than anything else. She always thought that between the author-architect and his creation has a strong connection. Although it sometimes happens that the architect in your own projects powered hide his "I". In such cases, according to the designer, created the architecture turns cold and impersonal. In our projects Odile mainly uses two colors: black and red. Black - the color symbolizing for her stories, and red - the color of life.

Although the addition of its own color taste for designer are also important features of the structure of the building and its purpose. For example, in the design of the restaurant "Phantom" for the Opera Garnier she has used a large amount of white. The designer explained this decision by the fact that the building is in a light stone, and she wanted to preserve a sense of the mineral.



Despite the fact that Odile quite expressive architecture, she suddenly fits well into the historical context. She was not interested in the historical component of the building, but it has successfully engineered design facilities restaurant "Phantom" and the Museum of Modern Art in Rome. This result is due to the respect for the structures themselves and save them certain elements or parts intact.

Odile sure that women architects do not just beat. And for the most part due to the fact that many men work hard with a woman. As an architect, she often has to deal with customers and company directors - men who are often not willing to work with a woman. And she believes this creates a huge disadvantage.

When Odile was just beginning his career as an architect in France, including the work on the construction site, she had a similar experience. Men sometimes suspicious of women such profession and tried in every way to hook it into technical issues. Therefore, it is sure that the woman architect is obliged to be very savvy in them. A woman should always professional approach to each project and be accurate in every detail.
